Process

For the prompt 'Recreate Something from your Past', I chose to recreate my childhood trampoline. As the first prompt I responded to, I used quite familiar materials, including cardboard, wire, string and hot glue. This helped me get comfortable with creating something tricky and allowed me to use more unfamiliar materials in my responses to the other prompts. I also made it entirely from memory, which made it a harder.

The main structure is cardboard and is painted silver to look like metal. The most difficult part was trying to decide what to use as the bouncy centre and netting - I ended up cutting up a pair of old tights for the centre and attaching it with small pieces of wire. I planned on using the tights to create the surrounding netting as well but it turned out too thick and the 'metal' was too fragile to pull it taut enough to see through. Based on the materials at hand I could either loosely wrap string to look like netting or paint paper black and cut holes in it. Due to limited time, I chose the string option. I think this was a good choice because it added to the broken look of the trampoline. My (real) trampoline was second hand and quite broken, and I made sure to emulate this with the ladder, pole and netting.
