Sculpture

We then had the idea to make an obstacle-course style sculpture for a ball. This made the ball the centre of the piece, it was interactive and meant it was easier to work on as a group. The box where the ball enters is inspired by a pinball machine - it was originally going to have one hole in the top and pieces of cardboard you ad to strategically move to let the ball past, but the box was too small for this. We had already cut the holes in the side, so we created three entry holes for the ball, using tubes of cardboard for the ball to travel through. Because the box had become quite heavy, we needed to use more string above it to pull it up. The box was attached to the wall with duct tape, so it looked like it was floating. The red string through the structure acted as a guide/map for the ball to follow, as if it it leading the ball the an exit, and the arrows surrounding it pointed to the entry. The string represents a life-line and tricks the ball into thinking it is escaping, but actually leads it into a trap. The arrows also create the illusion that this is a continuation of a previous journey the ball is taking, and it is near the end. We also added a ball wrapped in wool to the side, a past victim of the game.

We used a large variety of materials for this but the cardboard was the most useful, and there is no limit to the audience of this game.
